The Apple iPad What is it for
There has been a lot excitement in the market place and much hype about Apple’s new offering to the world, the Apple iPad. Initially provide issues within the US were affected by unprecedented demand in the UK for this new piece of equipment from Apple. Just as numerous folks were excited about the iPhone, others are actually excited about the Apple iPad, however are they excited simply because of the media hype or is it actually an important piece of know-how that we must always all rush out and buy?
Looking on the net at varied blogs and forums there may be a lot of a mixed reaction to the iPad. In development, prior to its launch, it was initially named the Apple Tablet and the title change to iPad might have been a ploy to make the consumers consider it as one thing completely different, not simply one other pill computer.
Due to this fact, does it compare to the tablets provided by Dell or Fujitsu? In lots of cases, some say not: it does not have the range of performance though it’s priced lower. Is it a replacement to the pocket book? Afraid not, it does not have the range of performance, although once more it is priced lower. Is it a new sort of e- reader? Effectively, it can present the function, however it’s not a top of the range e-reader though the advertising hype may make it seem like a competitor to the Kindle. So what is it for?
It actually gives the acquainted Apple capabilities, akin to access to the iStore and its listing of Apple apps, the wireless web access in order that we are able to use the web purposes and all the sites that we usually get to utilizing our laptops or mobiles. We will hearken to music on the iPad and we are able to play video games too. In truth, it sounds a bit just like the iPhone does it not? Without the phone!
Anybody can use the iPad: there are not any home windows, no files, just apps to use one at a time. “What no multitasking?” I hear you cry? No, not yet, will it come in the future? Maybe.
There is no digicam, however hey it’s not an enormous mobile phone, it’s an iPad; it isn’t a pocket book, it’s an iPad. Will they add a camera? Possibly – probably.
If we take a fast look at the technical facet, it has a 1024 x 768, 9.7 inch diagonal screen. The iPhone display screen, incidentally, is 480×320 and 3.5″ diagonally. It has a selection of 16gb, 32gb or 64gb flash drives installed. Its processor is a 1 GHZ Apple A4 processor with integrated 3D graphics, energy administration and audio, storage and I/O interfaces. On account of the truth that all of these capabilities are on a single chip it makes the Lithium-polymer battery a good contender in the perfect battery life competition.
Wi-Fi-only Apple iPads can run with a 10-hour battery life which will be perfect for those long airplane journeys and for much longer than a cell computer. A shorter life if you’re playing video games, however.
The know-how appears to be like OK, the battery life is excellent, it’s new and it’s from Apple: which may be enough to sway you into shopping for one. The price is seen by some as excessively high however you may make your own thoughts up about that as thousands of iPad homeowners already have. For those who would not have an iPhone the Apple iPad will probably be a deal with for you, however you will nonetheless want a cell phone if you have one.
When you’ve got an iPhone and have seen all the apps and skilled the touch display screen know-how and performed music and games you might battle to seek out the appropriate use for the iPad. Nonetheless, I really feel this is simply the beginning. It may well solely get better, new releases will come and performance will improve, though I doubt if the Apple iPad will get any cheaper.
One factor is certain: till it doesn’t have to boot up like any other computer, tablet or not, it will by no means have use as a telephone until it is impartial of the iPad itself. That one issue will scale back its attraction to iPhone users that already have lots of the apps they need – the Apple iPad then turns into no more than a computer and e-reader without excelling at either.

What You Must Know About Car GPS Navigation Systems
Car GPS navigation systems are probably one of the hottest electronic gadgets to come to market in the past few years! It’s no wonder why! These compact devices can do everything from tell you how to drive cross-country to let you know how to detour a traffic jam on the freeway.
Prices have dropped considerably in the past 18 months. Now, you can get a basic GPS system for around $150! If you want a more fully featured model, you can get that for $250 to $350, according to the model and the exact features.
That’s not a bad price for never having to be lost again!
The problem with buying a car GPS navigation system is there are so many manufacturers, and so many models to choose from. Unless you’re a GPS aficionado like me, you’re might be put off by all of the new technologies these things bring together and all of the buzz words you need to know to even understand what you’re buying.
Not to worry!
This little article is going to straighten you out!
Although there are tons of manufacturers of these things, there are only three major players, Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan. Gamin sells 70% of the car GPS systems sold; Tom Tom has a really great product at great prices; and Magellan is one of the main pioneers of the whole industry.
All three companies make excellent products at very competitive prices. You can certainly buy a GPS system from anyone you choose. I just like to stay with the big companies. It’s a personal decision. I want to make sure my device will be supported in the future.
To make things really much simpler, it’s good to know that all GPS navigation systems do essentially the same things. As a matter of fact, they all do the following:
* Tell you where you are
* Tell you how to get to where you want to go with spoken directions
* Let you enter information and make choices via a touch screen interface
* Have a large database of destinations already programmed into the device (called Points of Interest, or POI’s)
* Come pre-loaded with maps (older models you have to download the maps)
* auto-calculate the shortest or fastest route
You can get all of this for around $150. The Garmin nuvi 200, the Tom Tom One, or the Magellan Maestro 3100 can do all of this and more for about that price.
You would be pleasantly surprised, however, at how much more you can get for another $100 to $200!
That will buy you a car GPS navigation system that:
* Comes with maps of Canada, Europe, and/or Mexico
* Let’s you use it in conjunction with your cell phone using Bluetooth technology
* Tells you traffic and weather in real time
* Plays music, and serves as an audio book reader
* And, let’s you hear everything through your car’s own stereo system
That’s a lot of features for the money!
We’re not done, however! There’s plenty more these nifty devices can do.
As you go up in price you get things like bigger screens and multiple routing capability. At higher price points each manufacturer starts to really distinguish themselves with proprietary features–like Tom Tom’s POI database where users can actually make changes to reflect current road conditions. (Tom Tom makes those changes available for everyone to see!)
What you need to do next is to start browsing around an informative website where you can read about specific models and check their prices.

Apple Ipod Touch 32Gb What Do You Know About It
Apple iPod touch 32GB – Great Not Only For Music But Also Organization
I love my Apple iPod touch 32GB, because not only does it have great features for listening to music, like the Genius playlist feature, but it also has all the tools for keeping life organized. It syncs with my Google mail and calendar and I’m sure even more than I know about. Plus almost all of the great organizational apps work great on Apple iPod touch 32GB as well as the iPhone.
I would like to point out what is in the box you will receive, as packaged by Amazon. I got the iPod, the USB cable, a quick-start guide, an Apple sticker, a docking adaptor, and earbud headphones. There was not a stand to hold the iPod upright for watching videos, which is ok but somewhere I read that somebody got one of those.
——————————————————————————-
Apple iPod touch 32GB – Just What I Expected!
I’ve had an iPod since they first came out and over the years have bought an iPod 15GB, iPod 30GB, iPod Nano (2nd Gen), and and iPod Nano (3rd Gen). When the new generation of Nanos came out I had originally planned on buying one because of the features like the radio & camera but ultimately decided to go with the Apple iPod touch 32GB because of the ability to purchase and play Apps (i’m a puzzle nut!). I’ve always purchased my Apple iPod touch 32GB.
Directly from the Apple store and was a little afraid to purchase from Amazon but I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t pass up the price (184.99, no tax, and free shipping?! yes!) and my package arrived quickly and in perfect condition. To someone who’s never owned an iPod or a Mac the setup can be a little confusing but it’s pretty easy to figure it out. It’s been a month and I still haven’t had any issues with it. Love it!
——————————————————————————-
Apple iPod touch 32GB – My First MP3 Player
I bought this Apple iPod touch 32GB through Amazon, and it was delivered quickly and packaged excellently. I was thrilled when I saw that the purchase price was even lower than the Apple Store. In addition, I applied for the Amazon Visa to get an additional $40 off my first purchase. Apple iPod touch 32GB is my first MP3 player and I am enjoying it tremendously. I am still learning about different apps and how to download on iTunes.
Although iTunes has a tutorial, I don’t necessarily find it easy to use. However what I like about the iPod is that it keeps me organized because, by nature, I am very unorganized. It has a calendar, a place for friend’s information like birthdays, phone numbers, and e-mail. It has a calculator function, a clock. I can download a Bible, for heaven’s sake (LOL). I can carry it in my purse when I go to church.
It has a level app for handy husbands and I believe I can download a pedometer app. There are too many things to mention. I told my husband we could sell some of our stuff at a garage sale because there are so many handy things we can do with this. I love it!

GPS Review What To Look For
It is more than difficult to find a good GPS review on the Internet. The reason is this: GPS devices all do the same thing. They show your location on an electronic map, and then show you how to get where you’re going. Now, by GPS device I mean a car GPS device that you buy separately from your automobile and either hang from a bracket on your windshield or put next to you on the seat.
So, the key to a good GPS review is understanding the features that various GPS devices offer at each price point.
What do all GPS devices have in common?
All car GPS devices that are on the market today have a touch screen where you can enter information into the unit, such as your destination address. All auto-calculate the route to that address, and all give you spoken directions of some sort as you drive to your destination. In addition to this, virtually all GPS devices come pre-loaded with maps, usually at least of the continental United States, have an internal battery for emergency use, and can toggle between 2D and 3D map views. (3D gives you a slightly more realistic view of what you should be seeing in front of you.)
There are exceptions to all of these rules, but almost all are in the older models.
Who are the industry leaders?
There are three main manufacturers of car GPS systems, Garmin, Magellan, and Tom Tom.
Garmin sells about one out of two of all the car GPS systems sold in the world. They are known for making a quality product. Magellan was an early leader in GPS systems that can route you to more than one destination. They do not have nearly the market share that Garmin has. Tom Tom is a late arrival who is quickly catching up. According to Tom Tom, their GPS system, the Tom Tom One, is the best selling system in the world.
What are the main features to look for in a GPS system?
In this GPS review, let’s start at the cheap end and work our way up.
You can buy a GPS system for less than $200. The Garmin nuvi 200 and the Tom Tom One, 3rd Edition currently sell for less than $200 at Amazon.
As you increase price, the main features you can add are
Voice prompts that actually say the street name
Cheaper GPS devices only tell you where to turn. They say something like, “Turn right, here.” A good feature to be aware of is having the GPS device actually say the street name of the road you need to turn on. So, instead of “Turn right, here,” a better GPS system would say, “Turn right on Highland Avenue,” or “Take a left onto the entrance to I-95.” Devices with spoken street names usually start around $300.
Another feature to look out for is real-time traffic and weather capability
Wouldn’t it be nice if your GPS device could not only tell you how to drive from Atlanta, Georgia to Charlotte, North Carolina, but could alert you to bad traffic conditions in time to take a detour? Well, many of the more expensive units can. How does your GPS device know what the traffic is like up ahead? GPS devices that have this capability are tuned to either an FM or satellite radio frequency that broadcasts this information. If your device has this function, then it will usually come with a free trial subscription to this service. After that, it’s going to cost you, but the cost is fairly low, especially considering how useful real-time traffic is. Along with real-time traffic usually comes real-time weather — an added bonus.
Any of the Garmin nuvis from the nuvi 350 up have FM traffic capability. The nuvi 350 runs slightly less than $300 at Amazon. If you want a Magellan that route you around hold ups, you’ll be paying $300 to $350. All of the Tom Tom’s have this capability, even the Tom Tom One, 3rd Edition, which is one of the cheapest units on the market, currently running around $200.
Do you regularly use your cell phone while driving?
I know I do. It’s problematic to hold the cell phone in one hand and negotiate your way through heavy traffic on a busy interchange. If your phone supports Bluetooth technology you can get a GPS receiver with that same capability and actually use it to make and receive calls. You answer an incoming call by just tapping on the touch screen. You make an outgoing call by either entering the number in your GPS’s touch screen key pad or by accessing numbers stored in the device — downloaded from your phone when you first set up your receiver. So, now instead of wearing that silly Bluetooth headset and looking like a member of the Borg Collective, you can just have your GPS device do double duty. If you make a lot of calls while driving, this is definitely a feature you need to think about.
As to what Bluetooth is going to run you, the Garmin nuvi 360 is their lowest priced Bluetooth model. It currently sells for slightly more than $300. Virtually all of their upper end products have Bluetooth. Two of the Magellan Maestro series, the 3250 and the widescreen version, the 4250 have Bluetooth. They run around $280 and $350 respectively. The Tom Tom GO series has Bluetooth. They run anywhere from $350 to $900.
Multi-destination routing
It’s not something that I use much, but it’s definitely worth knowing about. Multi-destination routing means you can enter multiple routes into your GPS at one time and it will calculate the best route that includes all of your destinations.
Garmin’s nuvi 700 series does this, as well as a couple of their StreetPilot series. Most of the Magellan Maestro series does this – they can be programmed to hold up to 20 separate destinations. As for Tom Tom, the GO 510 can hold up to 15 routes. As to price, the nuvi 700s run anywhere from mid-$400s to almost $700. The Magellans are slightly less expensive, running from mid-$200s to the mid-$300s. The GO 510 costs slightly less than $500 at Amazon right now. The voice prompts, Bluetooth, and multi-destination routing are three of the more important features to consider.
Also, you want to keep in mind what maps your device comes with. And, almost as important, how many preprogrammed Points of Interest are included in its database.
Points of Interest
(POIs) are names, addresses, and phone numbers of possible destinations, anything from the nearest Starbucks to Yellowstone National Park. The lower priced units come with less than 1 million POIs. That’s not enough, if you’re going to be using this feature. For use outside of your normal travel routes, you really want a few million POIs. Virtually all GPS devices now come with this, except the lowest prices models, like the Garmin nuvi 200, which only has regional maps and less than 1 million POIs. (There’s nothing wrong with fewer POIs, if you’re not planning on needing them, but they sure can come in handy.)
Yet another feature to keep in mind is screen size. The standard size is 3.5 inches. This is measured on a diagonal. So the screen for the nuvi 270, for instance, measures 2.8″ by 2.1″. The so called widescreens measure 4.3 inches on the diagonal. You’re actually getting 70% more screen this way.
Why is screen size important?
It has to do with ease and safety of use while driving. Personally, I like a wide screen, but then again, my car is fairly big and has a big windshield. The difference in price between a regular screen and a widescreen is about $80. That might be money well spent. On the other hand, if you drive a smaller vehicle with less windshield area, the wider screen might be more of a hazard than a safety feature.
Currently at Amazon, Garmin nuvis (their newer product line) run from $179 for the nuvi 200 to $699 for the nuvi 770. The Magellan Maestros are running from $168 for the 3100 to $356 for the widescreen 4250. Tom Tom’s GPS systems are currently priced from slightly less than $200 for the Tom Tom One, 3rd Edition, to $899 for the GO 700 (which is overpriced).
Whatever you do, don’t procrastinate. Even with a good GPS review, with all of these confusing choices it’s tempting to just wait for whatever the next model is going to be. What you’re missing by doing that is lots less stress while driving! Imagine, if you’re a guy being able to always (really) know where you’re going despite what your wife or girlfriend says. And, even better, if you’re a woman you won’t have to pester your husband or boyfriend to stop at the local gas station and admit that they’re lost – not an easy admission for a guy. (I should know!)

What Lens Should I Obtain For My Dslr Camera
One of the most important advantages of DSLR cameras (i.e. semi-professional and professional) is the ability to use different lenses. However deciding on what lens to buy and what lens is suitable for a specific type of photography is a bit difficult. In this article we learn about advantages and main purpose of using specific types of lenses, hoping that we make it easier for you to decide.
Let’s have a look at different types of lenses and learn when they are used.
Prime Lenses and Zoom Lenses: A lens with a fixed focal length is being called a prime lens. This is opposite to zoom lenses which have varying focal length. As the focal length is fixed, in order to compose a photo you will need to adjust your distance to the scene to have specific objects or people in the photo. In zoom lenses, you will use the zoom level to compose the photo instead of changing the distance of camera to the scene.
Prime lenses have a more simple build than zoom lenses and they can be designed to have very much better performance, sharpness and quality than zoom lenses. Zoom lenses normally show different types of errors in different focal lengths while prime lenses have the least amount of such errors. Prime lenses are very compact and much smaller than zoom lenses. Their price is also cheaper than zoom lenses in an equal aperture size. You can buy a 50mm f/1.8 lens for a Canon or Nikon camera for around $100 while a zoom lens with the same aperture size might cost above $1000.
Aperture Size: Bigger aperture sizes (i.e. smaller f number) like f/1.4, f/1.8 and f/2 provide more light to the camera sensor and therefore are faster lenses (photo can be taken in a faster shutter time). However zoom lenses with bigger aperture size might be unbelievably expensive. F number is calculated by dividing the focal length to the aperture diameter. As an example if the aperture size (i.e. diaphragm window) of 50mm lens is set to 6.25mm the f number will be 50mm/6.25mm=8 meaning that with this aperture size, lens has been set to f/8.
Normal Prime Lens: A prime lens (i.e. with a fixed focal point) with a focal length of 50mm is called a normal lens. Photos taken with a 50mm lens seem similar to what our eyes see at the scene (perspective, angles etc). Canon, Nikon and some other DSLR brands, as mentioned in previous section, sell normal lenses with f/1.8 aperture size or better (like f/1.4) with a cheap price. An f/1.8 normal lens is suitable for relatively low light conditions and produces sharp and bright photos.
Short Zoom lenses: Zoom lenses which cover the range of up to 50-60mm can be considered in this category. Examples of these lenses are 35-70mm f/3.4-4.5 and 28-70mm f/3.5-4.5 lenses. Nowadays some Canon and Nikon models are offered with a cheap 18-55mm f/3.5-4.5 lens. These lenses can be considered short zoom lenses while they also cover wide and super wide range.
Super zoom lenses: These are the types which cover a super big range. Super zoom lenses like a 18-200mm lens cover wide-angle as well as tele-focal lengths.
However the most important feature of these lenses is their convenience of avoiding lens change. These lenses can offer almost every focal length you need and therefore they are sometimes being called as “walk around lenses”. If convenience is not a matter for you, we recommend you to use more than one lens which have a better performance in a smaller focal length range.
Wide-angle and Ultra Wide-angle lenses: Lenses with a focal length of 21mm to 35mm are normally called wide-angle lenses. Lenses with a focal length of less than 21mm are called ultra wide-angle lenses. These lenses can be either prime lenses or varying focal length ones (zoom lenses). Wide-angle prime lenses have better aperture sizes (in the range of f/1.4 to f2.8) than wide-angle zoom lenses (aperture sizes of f/3.5-f/4.5 most of the time). Again the zoom types provide flexibility while prime lenses provide sharper photos, cheaper price and bigger aperture size (i.e. better photos in low light conditions). There are also zoom lenses which just cover wide and super wide ranges. These include 21-35mm, 18-28mm lenses.
The large coverage angle is also one of the benefits of wide and super wide lenses. An ultra wide lens can sometimes capture up to a 90 degrees angle or even more.
Wide and ultra wide lenses normally have perspective distortion. This kind of distortion causes the nearby images to be photographed very much bigger than far away objects. These lenses are suitable for taking photos inside buildings, street photography and so on.
If you mostly shoot inside buildings, a lens covering focal lengths of 28mm or below will be suitable. This kind of lens allows you to capture a considerable angle of a scene without the need to have a big distance with the subject(s). However, if you shoot portraits and nature a longer range lens will be more useful. In these cases a 35-135mm lens is very good.
Long telephoto lenses: Lenses with a focal length of 135mm or above are normally considered as long telephoto lenses. Tele lenses which have varying focal length are called telephoto zoom lenses while those with a fixed focal length are simply called telephoto lenses. You can easily find 55-200mm, 55-250mm, 70-300mm, and similar telephoto zoom lenses for most of the DSLR brands. However because of the big range of the lens and complicated design, different focal lengths of the lenses might show different errors and quality. These lenses normally have a lower performance than short zoom lenses and fixed focal length telephoto lenses. A 200mm telephoto prime lens is an example of non-zoom telephoto lenses.
Medium telephoto lenses: Lenses with focal length of the range 85-135mm are sometimes referred as portrait lenses. This is because their perspective distortion is low and a suitable distance between the subject person and camera can be maintained. Many telephoto zoom lenses can be used in this range, but they are heavier, bigger and their maximum aperture size is smaller than prime lenses. However if you shoot a lot of portraits, you would rather use medium prime telephoto lenses like with a focal length of between 85mm and 105mm maximum aperture size of f/2. Prime medium telephoto lenses have less perspective error and as mentioned earlier their image quality is sharper and brighter and bigger aperture size prime lenses are cheaper than zoom lenses with the same maximum aperture size.
Macro Lenses: Macro lenses are designed to provide very high level of magnification and also very short focusing distances. In normal zoom lenses minimum focus distance (i.e. the distance between lens and the object) is normally larger than 30 cm. This distance is a few centimeters for macro lenses so you can take photos from a shorter distance and have a sharp and very detailed photo of a very small object (like a small flower or a bee).

Amazon Kindle Howto Series What Could be New With the Kindle 2
Amazon has sent-out press releases for a big announcement on February 9th in New York City hosted by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. Since the event is being held in the Morgan Library, the big rumor is that the new Kindle 2 will debut. For Amazon this is big news since the Kindle was one of the big bright spots of the depressing 2008 holiday selling season.
One of the other interesting reasons that the Kindle is great for Amazon is that it appears to be incremental sales for the company. During a recent earnings call, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos claimed that for every physical book Kindle owners purchase from Amazon they also purchase 1.6 to 1.7 e-books for their Kindle. It seems that the Kindle really gets owners even more involved in reading.
So what’s in it for people like you and me that might buy a new Kindle 2? We’ve done a little research on the rumors and some sites like The New York Times and The Boy Genius Report have some interesting details.
1. According to The New York Times the big feature is the improved responsiveness of the display on the new Kindle. One of the key irritants owners of the Kindle 1 have is that when you click the “Next Page” button the Kindle screen goes dark for a second before the next page displays. The new display uses a new microchip and digital ink technology that – reportedly – does away with this issue.
2. In addition to improving responsiveness for reading, the new display also improves responsiveness for doing things OTHER than reading – for example browsing the Web and working with e-mail. The Kindle 1 Web browser was an “experimental” feature that handled text-based sites best. You could use G-Mail for example, but in the “mobile phone mode” which is primarily text vs. graphics based. The new screen technology seems to remove this barrier.
3. Keyboard is larger – based on “leaked” pictures posted on The Boy Genius Report, the new Kindle 2 keyboard is larger making it easier to work with the keys.
4. The scroll wheel is replaced with a track-ball. Again – checking out the “leaked” pictures of the Kindle 2 it appears the scroll wheel is replaced by a track-ball. We expect this means the way you might interact with the new Kindle 2 screen will be significantly different than the Kindle 1. Rather than using the screen in a “linear” fashion, the track ball will allow you to roam the screen and select text more easily for bookmarks, notes, etc. The new Kindle 2 track-ball might also make it easier to interact with web pages vs. the current scroll wheel.
Let’s think about what we’d like to see in the new Kindle 2 as well!
A. Better web browsing – this seems to be covered
B. Built-in Media Player – allow selecting and playing of mp3 files vs. random play
C. Built-in ability to read .pdf files – Adobe .pdf is a universal file format for a lot of e-books. You can now read .pdf files by e-mailing them to your Kindle e-mail address. Google will convert them for a small charge
And the big question – will those people who now have Kindle’s on back order get the new Kindle 2 when it is released?
We can only wait until February 9th to find-out!
