With some savvy installation, it is even possible to run both Linux and WIndows 7 on one PC. Not at the same time of course. You will need to download and install a “Boot Manager” if you don;t know how to configure your PC to “dual boot”. Dual boot just means that when you first start your PC. it will ask you which system you want to launch. Skip Vista and head for WIndows 7 if you are intent on avoiding XP, as Vista is a “hog” and “slug”. My recommendation is for XP.
I have a eeepc 900 that dual boots windows XP and Debian. The first thing is which storage configuration your model has. If it is a 4GB model there is no way Win 7 will fit on it properly as XP home with updates fills the drive on mine alone. Second that machine is only 900Mhz Celeron, running Windows 7 or Vista would just be silly slow. Third, even Windows XP will barely fit into a 4GB space anymore if that is the drive configuration you have. Also note the 12GB models actually have TWO drives in them one 4GB for OS and one 8GB for program files. I run Windows XP home on the built in drives and then boot to Linux on a 16GB SDHC card in the slot. It runs decent but is not quite as fast as the built in ssd..
Agreed. Install XP, Vista doesn’t tend to run comfortably with less than 4gb of Ram and 7 is just a flat out NO GO.
depends if the windows 7 is a full retail addition or an upgrade, if it is an upgrade version you will need to have an operating system installed, but if it is a full version it will install without anything on it!!
DONT!
eee 900 does NOT have any drivers except win XP.
the CPU does not meet the min req’s for win 7.
just put in xp home, upgrade ram to 2gb.
thats the fastest configs
